Fight Gear Care: Surviving Thailand's Humidity

Phuket's humidity destroys fight gear faster than the training does. The fix is simple and free: never leave gear in your bag, air-dry it after every session, and wash your wraps. Do that and your gloves last years instead of months. Here's the full routine.

The 30-second rule: the moment training ends, take everything out of the bag. Sealed + sweat + heat = the smell and the rot. Air beats everything.

The care routine that actually works

1. Never store gear in your gym bag

A closed bag in this climate is a petri dish. Pull gloves, shin guards and wraps out the second you're done.

2. Air-dry after every session

Open gloves wide, prop them so air flows through the hand cavity, out of direct sun. A cheap glove dryer or even crumpled paper inside speeds it up.

3. Wash your hand wraps

Wraps soak up most of the sweat — that's their job. Wash them regularly and your gloves stay fresher far longer. Keep two pairs so one is always dry (hand wraps).

4. Deodorise & wipe down

Wipe leather with a barely-damp cloth, let it dry fully, and use a gear deodoriser. Avoid soaking leather or drying it in direct sun — both crack it.

5. Rotate

If you train daily, two pairs of gloves doubles drying time and more than doubles their life.

When care isn't enough: cracked foam, failed stitching or a glove that's gone soft no longer protects you — that's replacement time, not repair time. Browse the fight gear range when it's time.

Quick FAQ

How do I stop my gloves smelling in Thailand?

Out of the bag immediately, air-dry fully every time, wash your wraps, and deodorise. Smell is trapped moisture — remove the moisture.

How long should fight gear last in Phuket?

Quality gear cared for properly lasts years even with daily training; neglected in a humid bag it can fail in months.
